Unicellular green algae (Chlorella or Senedesmus) are inoculated into, and cultivated with agitation in, an aqueous culture medium containing inorganic salts together with at least one sugar and/or at least one organic acid and the cultivation is carried out under a substantially continuous illumination of at least 10 Lux intensity. The aqueous culture medium preferably includes one or more amino acids, or natural materials containing amino acids, as a growth-promoting factor. Examples disclose culture media including glucose, casamino acid, urea, magnesium sulphate, ferrous sulphate, mono-potassium hydrogen phosphate, potassium chloride, boric acid, specified salts of manganese zinc, molybdenum, copper and cobalt, and defatted soy bean, and illuminations of 1,000 and 5,000 Lux. |
