Accelerating the cell proliferation of biological cell material, comprises (a) providing a cell material and suspending the cell material in an electrically conductive fluid to a suspension that is positioned between two electrodes, and (b) discharging at least one electric field pulse between the electrodes, where the electric field pulse is delivered in such a way that a rise in voltage between the two electrodes is 10-90% of a target voltage of at least one electric field pulse within a time period of 0.1-100 nanoseconds (ns).
