A vehicle tyre incorporates heat-reflective material in the form of finely-divided particles uniformly distributed at least in an integral outer layer thereof. The tyre illustrated has a layer 19 and layers 21 of elastomer containing 10-25 parts of aluminium flakes per 100 parts of elastomer covering the whole outer surface and also the nylon reinforcing plies of both the carcase and tread. The whole rubber part of a tyre may incorporate heat-reflectvie material, instead of only layers. The aluminium gives the tyre a silvery appearance, which is not darkened by heat. The tyre is suitable for high-speed aircraft, where the retracted wheel compartments are heated by air friction. |
