1,254,207. Measuring liquid level electrically. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. Feb.20, 1969 [Feb. 20, 1968], No.9237/69. Heading G1N. In a liquid level sensor thermister material 29 is coated on one side of an insulated metal strip 26 and has formed thereon a pair of spaced parallel resistors 30 and a pair of spaced parallel conductors 32, 34. The opposite side of the strip carries a heating element 24 and a resistor 22. The portions of the resistors 30 between the conductors 32, 34 constitute a resistor 20, Fig. 1, connected in series with the thermister material 18 between the resistors 30. The sensor is connected to a gauge as shown in Fig. 1 to give a continuous indication of the liquid level. In one method of making the sensor, one side of a nickel strip is coated with thermister material and the nickel is oxidized to form an insulating coating thereon. The remaining elements are then printed on by silk-screening. |
