1,147,431. Dandy roll driving apparatus. WOOLLARD & HENRY Ltd. 23 June, 1966 [23 June, 1965], No. 26496/65. Heading D2A. [Also in Division H2] The dandy roll of a paper-making machine is driven by an electro-magnetic constant torque output device 13 so that there is a constant slippage between the roll and the Fourdrinier wire independent of the speed of the wire. An electric motor drives, through a reduction gearbox and coupling, input shaft 15 connected to input rotor 22 which is mounted within stator 19 having field coil 20. In the small clearance 24 between rotor 22 and an inner rotor 23 connected to output shaft 14 there is ferro-magnetic powder which provides a magnetic tangential force on rotor 23 which is constant if the current in coil 20 is constant. The motor and device 13 &c. are mounted on a table the height of which is adjustable by screw jacks 17 Fig. 3 (not shown). For high wire speeds the electric motor may be the receiver of a self-synchronous transmitter/ receiver system with the transmitter being drivingly connected to the couch roll shaft. |
