In order to prevent chafing and abrading between the individual conduits of a flexible underwater pipe-line comprising a plurality of conduits 24 the latter are layed in spiral configurations about an axially extending straight core member 26 which may, as shown, consist of a metal pipe or flexible hose, or comprise a steel cable the conduits 24 being located between non-foamed and foamed elastomeric filler layers 31, 30 respectively and enclosed within a protective plastics sheath 32. The filling 31 may be an elastomer of the polyvinyl chlorides, the butyls, the neoprenes, or the polypropylenes, the filling 30 and sheath 32 being of the same material but foamed, and denser respectively. The pipe-line also includes electric cables 28 and steel tension rods 26, the filler 31 preferably comprising fibrous polypropylene. |
