PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for x-ray generating are provided to prevent unnecessary X-ray generation and the radiation to a target by using a CNT(Carbon NanoTube) as a cathode and controlling the potential supplied to a gate electrode and a focusing electrode. CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus and a method for x-ray generating, an x-ray generation apparatus comprises an X rays tube and a high voltage generator(1'). The X rays tube is comprised of a vacuum tube, a cold cathode, and a gate electrode(15), a connection electrode(20), and a target(30). A plurality of voltages which is controlled in the high voltage generator are applied to the cold cathode, the gate electrode, a focusing electrode, and the target respectively to generate an X-ray. The cold cathode uses a carbon nanotube.
