PURPOSE: An image signal processing apparatus and a method thereof are provided to obtain an image with widened broadband dynamic range without a deterioration or a damage. CONSTITUTION: A luminance component extraction unit(30) extracts a first luminance signal and a second luminance signal by receiving a first image signal with low luminance property and a second image signal with high luminance property. A reference luminance signal generation unit(40) generates a reference luminance signal between the first luminance signal and the second luminance signal. A color mapping unit(50) determines the first image signal and the second image signal as a color signal of a first mapping signal and a second mapping signal. A synthesizing unit(70) synthesizes the first mapping signal and the second mapping signal.
