PURPOSE: A projection type display system with a position detection function is provided to detect a position of an object without using a light emitting device or a light receiving device. CONSTITUTION: A projection type display system includes: a position detection light source unit(11) disposed on an image projection device to emit position detection light toward the target object; a light detector(30) which detects the position detection light reflected by the target object in a detection area; and a position detection unit(50) which detects the position of the target object based on a light reception result obtained by the light detector.
