A device for taking blood samples comprises a flexible bag 1 made of two sheets of pliant plastics material sealed along three of its sides at 7, the bag having a narrowing end 2 with an opening shaped' in the form of a neck 3. a mandrel 4 sealingly fitted to the wall of the neck, a cannula 5 in open communication with the interior of the bag, and carried in an axial bore in the mandrel, and a removable cap 6 covering the cannula. The bag may be made of polyamide material, and the sealed portion 8 opposite the neck may be of increased width to provide a flat surface for marking inscriptions..The mandrel is preferably inserted into the neck, and heat-sealed in place; the mandrel may have a portion 9 inside the bag of diameter larger than the neck, and a circular groove 11 in which the neck material seats, especially if the mandrel and bag are heatsea!ed together. Also the mandrel may have an external rib 12 as a shoulder against which the end face of the neck bears, and an internal shoulder to seat the heel of the cannula. formed by the junction of a narrow part 10 with a wider part of the axial bore.
