[Also in Division H1] Series-connected thryistors in a high-voltage rectifier are alternately of PNPN and NPNP type. The thyristors are mounted in pairs on common bases, the cathode of one type of thyristor in the pair and the anode of the other type being connected to the common electrode. Fig. 2 shows one such arrangement, the thyristors in the pairs being provided with voltageequalizing tapped RC networks 6, similar equalizers 6<SP>1</SP> being connected (optionally) between adjacent pairs. Since adjacent elements of adjacent pairs are at the same potential the two control electrodes may be fed from a single transformer 4 energized by the control pulse generator (not shown). Unless single thyristors are used at the ends of the assembly separate control transformers 4<SP>1</SP> must be used. Coolant is fed through ducts 8 attached to the common electrodes, insulating connections 9 being provided between adjacent pairs. In a second arrangement (Fig. 4, not shown) the common electrode is provided at the other ends of the thyristors. In this case a common control transformer may feed the control electrodes of the two elements of a pair. The two thyristors of a pair may be enclosed within a single insulating housing. |
