1,261,967. Photopolymerizable materials. GAF CORP. 7 Feb., 1969 [12 Feb., 1968], No. 6790/69. Heading C3P. [Also in Division G2] A photopolymerizable composition comprises an ethylenically unsaturated compound, a ferric salt, an alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid which is either a colour coupler or a dye and optionally, a peroxy compound. The composition may also contain a polymer. The peroxy compound may be a peroxide or a per salt or per acid. Specified carboxylic acids are metahydroxy mandelic acid and the alpha-hydroxy carboxylic acid of malachite Green. In the examples, the composition is coated on a support, image-wise exposed, treated with peroxide and washed with water to remove unexposed areas which leaves a coloured resist if a dye is used. If a coupler is used, the resist is treated with an alkaline colour developer and then with an oxidizing agent such as potassium ferricyanide or bichromate to produce a coloured resist. Specified monomers are acrylamides, acrylic and methacrylic acids, esters and salts, vinyl esters and ethers, butadiene, vinyl pyrrolidine and acrylonitrile. A cross-linking agent such as a bisacrylamide, triallyl cyanurate, divinyl benzene, divinyl ketones or diglycol diacrylate may be present. |
