Internal screw-threads are machined in the bore of a rotating workpiece by a tool 13, mounted in a spindle 12, which is rotated and axially reciprocated. A flywheel 4 is slidably keyed to spindle 12, and is rotated by a chain 6, and chain wheel 5. A collar 8 is fixed to spindle 12, and carries a follower 9 which cooperates with an angularly adjustable, non- rotatable cam 10. In operation, the end of the spindle housing 14 is brought up against the workpiece, and the tool 13 is axially reciprocated, and rotated to thus cut a screw thread in the rotating workpiece. The face of cam 10 may be plane, or when producing a square thread, is of sinusoidal form. |
