PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite muffler associated with a vehicle bumper in which mechanical shock and vibration transmitted by an exhaust pipe of a muffler are reduced wherein a thermal barrier is arranged between the exhaust pipe and a shell of the composite muffler to compensate for thermal expansion. SOLUTION: The bumper/muffler assembly 21 includes the bumper and the muffler 23 having an outer shell 22. The outer shell may be formed from a non-high-impact-resistant material, such as a thin metal or a composite material. The muffler may include a separate element from the bumper, which is coupled to the bumper or is formed as an integral part of the bumper. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
