PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light guide diffusing the light of a point light source positioned on the incidence plane side of the light guide by the shape of the emission plane of the light guide, and to provide an image reader and an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The light guide 5 includes: an incidence plane 5a which is formed along the longitudinal direction of the light guide 5 and on which the light of a light source having a plurality of LEDs 141 is to be made incident; and an emission plane where a plurality of grooves 5i and 5j extending in a direction crossing the longitudinal direction are formed for diffusing the light made incident on the incidence plane 5a in the longitudinal direction.
