PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for measuring visual appearance of a birefringence fiber. SOLUTION: The method of measuring appearance of a birefringence fiber includes: the step of irradiating the birefringence fiber with polarized light, generating an IR<SB>i</SB>internal reflection light component, an ER<SB>i</SB>external reflection light component, and a D<SB>i</SB>diffusion light component of the polarized light, and observing light from the birefringence fiber irradiated with light; the step of generating O<SB>i</SB>polarization states of the observed light; the step of forming X<SB>i</SB>images of the observed polarization light; the step of measuring light intensity (intensity) I<SB>i</SB>in each pixel of the X<SB>i</SB>images, where each image includes information (N<SB>i</SB>, O<SB>i</SB>, IR<SB>i</SB>, ER<SB>i</SB>, D<SB>i</SB>), i=1, 2, ..., n, and n≥4; and the step of extracting the i-th internal reflection light component, the i-th external reflection light component, and the i-th diffusion light component from the i-th image of the X<SB>i</SB>images.
