PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new polymers or copolymers to be a substrate for a hydration reaction and a dehydration reaction, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: There are provided the polymers or copolymers containing a structural unit represented by general formula (1) (wherein, each symbol is particularly defined); polymers or copolymers obtained by oxidizing and hydrating the same; and the method for producing the same.
