PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate visual recognition of display of a display device by a light source without changing color with respect to an object person such as an elderly person and dyschromatopsia person. SOLUTION: (A) The value corresponding to the ratio between standard visibility I<SB>Lu</SB>and visibility I<SB>Lu_o</SB>of the object person is determined when it is assumed that the wavelength of light is λ, the spectral radiant intensity of the light source 34 expressed by a function of the wavelength λ is I(λ), the spectral luminous efficiency of the object person expressed by a function of the wavelength λ is V<SB>o</SB>(λ), the spectral luminous efficiency as a standard expressed by a function of the wavelength λ is V(λ), the luminous efficacy at the wavelength where the spectral luminous efficiency V(λ) as the standard is maximum is k<SB>m</SB>, the luminous efficacy at the wavelength where the spectral luminous efficiency V<SB>o</SB>(λ) of the object person is maximum is k<SB>m_o</SB>, the wavelength on the short wavelength side of visible radiation is λ<SB>S</SB>, and the wavelength on the long wavelength side of visible radiation is λ<SB>L</SB>. (B) Based on the determined value, the brightness changed in response to the ratio I<SB>Lu</SB>/I<SB>Lu_o</SB>of I<SB>Lu</SB>to I<SB>Lu_o</SB>with reference to the standard brightness is determined as the brightness of the light source 34 of the display device 2.
