PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and high definition EL display device.

SOLUTION: A pixel 102 including an EL element having a pixel electrode 105 connected to a current control TFT 104 as a cathode is arranged on a substrate, and a counter electrode 110 has a shading film 112 formed at a position corresponding to an edge of the pixel 102 and a color filter 113 formed at a position corresponding to the pixel 102. By this shading film 112, the contour of the pixel becomes clear and a high definition image display becomes possible. Since the EL display device can use most of manufacturing lines of a liquid crystal display device, the burden of facility investment is less and overall manufacturing cost is reduced.
