PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of guiding light rays confined in a glass substrate or an organic EL light-emitting layer to the outside, thereby improving light extraction efficiency. SOLUTION: The image reader includes a light source for radiating light and a reading means for reading an image by the radiated light. In the image reader, the light source includes: a glass substrate 51; an organic electroluminescent layer 53 provided on one surface of the glass substrate 51; and a light guide layer which is provided on the other surface of the glass substrate and comprises an optical sheet 60 and a microlens array for guiding light trapped in the glass substrate 51 and the organic electroluminescent layer 53, to the outside. In the image reader, the light extraction efficiency with which light is extracted by the light guide layer is different between a center portion and both-ends portions in a main-scanning direction.
