PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rail detection method in a rail displacement measurement apparatus, capable of preventing a planar object present in the vicinity of a rail and having a head surface with a width larger than the rail from being incorrectly detected as a rail. SOLUTION: The method calculates a position error between a rail position measured in a measurement triangle and a rail position measured by one of first and second distance detectors in the measurement triangle when the measurement triangle is formed, and detects an object to be measured as the rail when the position error falls within a predetermined range.
