The device has an air supply device (12) i.e. volumetric compressor, sound absorbers (13, 14), a drive motor i.e. electric motor, a valve device (16), a recirculation conveying device (18) and a drain and/or purge valve (19), which are supported by a sound-absorbing housing. The sound-absorbing housing comprises an inner shell and an outer shell. The compressor, the absorbers, the motor, the valve device, the conveying device and the valve are firmly connected with the inner shell. The sound-absorbing housing is made of metal, plastic or fiber-reinforced plastic or composite material.
