The method involves moving a camera (3) along a camera guide rail (2) transverse to a driving direction (4) of an agricultural vehicle. The camera is driven by a guiding system in a vision line of an infrared-radiation sensor (6) during occurrence of detected signals of the sensor that is formed as a front end sensor, and a digital signal is triggered from a position when the camera is moved for analyzing an image using pattern recognition algorithms. An alarm signal is delivered when the detected animal is determined by the pattern recognition algorithms. An independent claim is also included for a device for searching and detecting an animal hidden in an agricultural field and meadow during machine processing of the agricultural field of an infrared-radiation sensor that is fixed to an agricultural vehicle, comprising a camera.
