The device has a product container including a piston arranged adjustably in a discharge direction, and a dose indicator element (2) movable relative to a housing (1) between a distal end position and a proximal end position. An actuation device (5) e.g. push button, is actuated for liquid product e.g. insulin, discharge to transfer driving power over a drive chain to the piston, where the piston is movable in the discharge direction. A mechanism e.g. ball, nut (9) and ring, leads the power from the chain before setting the indicator element in its distal end position.
