The commutator (1) has a segmented abrasive web arranged concentrically to an axis (2), and segments (6) provided with a carbon support for the web. Metallic carriers are designed as electrically conductive contact elements in the web. The segments are separated by radially arranged slots (5) and held one below the other in a common body that is made of an insulating material. The metallic carriers lie behind the carbon support. The metallic carriers lie together within the segments, and are limited with a distance to the slots and edge-laterally covered by the carbon support. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a commutator.
