PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a one-pack hydrophilic coating agent which is a coating-type hydrophilic coating agent desirable for anti-fog treatments of agricultural greenhouses, greenhouses, etc., and stain-proof treatments of outside house walls and using sodium silicate [Na<SB>2</SB>O2(SiO<SB>2</SB>)], and to provide a method for use thereof. SOLUTION: A coating-type inexpensive easy-to-handle one-pack hydrophilic coating agent containing 1-70 pts.wt. inexpensive sodium silicate and 0.5-30 pts.wt. low-molecular hydrophilic organic compound as principal components is provided. When the hydrophilic coating agent is applied to an agricultural film, an outside house wall, or the like and is then dried, a glass body of the sodium silicate is firmly adhered to the application surface to thereby coat the application surface. As a result, the low-molecular hydrophilic organic compound distributed over the application surface allows water or rainwater to fall in drops. Further, in the case where it is used after being diluted, it becomes easy to handle because of its smaller volume. Furthermore, when the hydrophilic effect is lowered, reapplication can restore the hydrophilic effect. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
