PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing highly pure monoethylene glycol from a recovered ethylene glycol raw material, excellent in quality of the monoethylene glycol, in particular, excellent in UV transmission, simple in operation and apparatus, and excellent in production cost. SOLUTION: The method for producing high purity monoethylene glycol by using recovered liquid containing ethylene glycol as a raw material, is characterized by comprising, subjecting the liquid comprising recovered ethylene glycol to heat treatment in the presence of an alkaline material, subjecting the resultant liquid to rough distillation, and subjecting the resultant distillate to purification.
