PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that includes: a cleaning member for recovering residual toner adhering to the surface of an intermediate transfer belt; and an auxiliary cleaning member for reducing the adhering force of the residual toner in contact with the same, the auxiliary cleaning member having inorganic powder in the initial state. SOLUTION: A color copying machine 1 includes: the main cleaning member 180 disposed on the transfer surface 7A side of the intermediate transfer belt 7 and downstream of a secondary transfer roller 8, and used for removing residual toner adhering to the transfer surface 7A; and the auxiliary cleaning member 190 disposed on the transfer surface 7A side of the intermediate transfer belt 7 and upstream of the cleaning member 180 in the rotating direction of the intermediate transfer belt 7, used to reduce adhering force of the residual toner in contact with the residual toner adhering to the transfer surface 7A, and having one or two types of inorganic powder in an initial state.
