The device has a control- and/or regulating- unit (10) with speed limiting function for limiting motor vehicle speed and transmission switching function, which causes transmission upshift process. The control- and/or regulating- unit has upshift prevention function, and activates the upshift prevention function for a predetermined time interval. The transmission switching function has normal switching characteristic, which is partially deactivated by the upshift prevention function having switching prevention characteristic replacing the switching characteristic. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a motor vehicle transmission device.
