PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform skew correction of a document which is conveyed mechanically or electrically, or mechanically and electrically by detecting the leading and tailing edges of the document conveyed by a document detection means provided in one place. SOLUTION: In an image processing apparatus which has a reading means for reading a document that is conveyed, a detection means detects a first or second amount of document skew in the leading or tailing edge of the document based on a detection state of the leading or tailing edge of the document by the document detection means (S101 and S105). Then, according to the detected first and second amounts of document skew, skew correction processing by the first and second skew correction means is controlled (S102 to S103, and S106 to S109).
