PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce interference between cells or between sectors. SOLUTION: In a base station in a wireless communication system using a pilot signal having a predetermined pattern during transmission from a user terminal to a base station, a storage section stores a pilot pattern which is set in such a way that pilot patterns used in neighboring base stations or neighboring sectors become different and pilot patterns in the same base station or the same sector become different for each modulation scheme, a pilot pattern assignment section refers to a corresponding relationship between the modulation scheme and a pilot to assign a pilot pattern corresponding to the modulation scheme of the user terminal to the user terminal, and a pilot pattern notification section notifies the user terminal of the pilot pattern corresponding to the modulation scheme.
