The device has a transmitting element (4) provided such that shock pulses act on the transmitting element. The transmitting element transmits shock waves. A spring (2) i.e. cylindrical pressure spring, generates the shock pulses, and a tensioning device is associated with the spring. The tensioning device allows abrupt release of the spring while delivering the shock pulses. The spring is in effective connection with a striking part such that a spring force of the spring is transmitted as the shock pulses. An independent claim is also included for a hand-held medical device comprising a housing.
