RAPID START-UP CIRCUIT FOR SOLID STATE LIGHTING SYSTEM

<p>A device enables rapid start-up of a power converter during a start-up period, the power converter controlling power to a solid state lighting load. The device includes a low impedance path formed temporarily between a rectified voltage node and a power converter voltage node for charging the power converter during the start-up period. The device further includes a diode connected between the power converter and an auxiliary winding. The diode has a cathode connected to the ground voltage through a first capacitor having a small bypass capacitance and an anode connected to the ground voltage through a second capacitor having a large bulk capacitance. The first capacitor is charged and the second capacitor is not charged while the low impedance path is formed during the start-up period.</p>
