The method involves pressurizing short-wave electromagnetic radiation of a surface. The radiation from a radiation source towards the surface is controlled by a transmission medium that is aligned towards the electromagnetic radiation. A gas mixture containing atmospheric air and/or fluid and/or gas mixture is used as the transmission medium, where the transmission medium contains water and/or water vapor. Temperature of the surface is adjusted in such a manner that the water and/or the water vapor at the surface is condensed. An independent claim is also included for a device for sterilization of surfaces such as packaging goods surfaces e.g. surfaces of packaging webs, and surfaces of hollow bodies.
