<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic surgical ablation probe having a conical hood reflector and a method of manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The probe 100 includes a shaft assembly 101 that has a coaxial feedline core having an inner conductor 103 and an outer conductor 105 separated by an insulating layer 104. A tubular catheter is disposed coaxially around the feedline and is configured to deliver a coolant, such as saline or deionized water, to a coolant chamber 136 at a distal end formed within the conical reflector 130. A radiating section disposed within the conical reflector 130 may have a conical, cylindrical, or other suitable shape. A membrane 134 disposed across a distal opening 132 of the conical reflector 130 seals the coolant within the coolant chamber 136, and may conform to tissue contours during use. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
