PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver that restrains power consumption from increasing, and at the same time, realizes speedy program switching responsive to a user's switching request of a broadcast program. SOLUTION: The receiver includes a preference information means for receiving time division multiplexed data, holding the received data in a buffer, and storing user's preference information of viewed programs, an OSE prediction means for comparing a program displayed on a screen with the user's preference information of viewed programs in response to the user's switching request for a viewed program, and predicting whether the user executes switching of the viewed program continuously. When it is predicted that the user continuously carries out switching of the viewed program, the receiver continuously receives all programs until time-out occurs and holds data of the all programs continuously received in the buffer, but when it is predicted that the user does not carry out switching of the viewed program continuously, the receiver performs the reception of the time division multiplexed data quickly.
