PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of preventing or treating the state relating to bacillemia, sepsis, septic shock, failure of several organs, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) etc. SOLUTION: The invention relates to oral administration of solely a lactoferrin composition or together with a standard therapy or a metal chelator for the prevention or treatment of the subsequent symptom of generalized inflammatory response syndrome induced by bacteria, especially the therapeutic use of solely a recombinant human lactoferrin or combined with a metal chelator or other therapeutic medical act.
