In a machine tool (1) including a supporting device (2) and a tool rest (4), a workpiece (W) is supported rotatably around a first axis (C) by the supporting device (2), and a rotary tool or a boring tool (6) for boring operations to machine an internal surface of the workpiece (W) is coupled, rotatably around a second axis (L1), to a rotary shaft of the tool rest (4). The tool rest (4) is allowed to be turned around an axis (B) perpendicular to the first axis (C), and the boring tool (6) includes a tool holder (7) adapted to be coupled to the rotary shaft and a bit (6a) which is angled with respect to an axis (L2) of the tool holder (7), whereby a boring operation is performed with the tool rest (4) positioned at a predetermined oblique angle with respect to the first axis (C).
