Biodegradable shaped product is made from a composite material comprising a polymeric binder and a woven or nonwoven reinforcement made from natural fibers. Independent claims are also included for: (1) semifinished product for making a shaped product as above, where the binder is in the form of a woven or nonwoven material and is bonded to the reinforcement, especially by needling; (2) producing a semifinished product stated to be as above by impregnating the reinforcement with a biodegradable polymeric binder; (3) producing a shaped product by producing a semifinished product as above, heating the semifinished product to a temperature above the melting point of the binder, shaping the product and cooling it below the melting point of the binder.
