An apparatus for treating the human or animal body by focused shock waves comprises: (a) a shock wave source adapted to produce the shock waves, a focusing device adapted to focus the shock waves onto a focus region in the body to be treated; (b) a locating probe adapted to be inserted into the body to be treated; (c) a magnetic locating element as a part of the locating probe and arranged in the locating probe; and (d) a magnetic locating apparatus adapted to locate the magnetic locating element in the body to be treated and thus adapted for navigation during the treatment, is new. An independent claim is a method of using the apparatus above for navigation with regard to the region to be treated, where the locating probe is inserted into the body and moved near the region to be treated, where the distance between the magnetic locating element and the region to be treated is determined, and where the magnetic locating element is located in the determined distance by means of the magnetic locating apparatus and is used for navigation monitoring of the region to be treated after the locating. |
