The method involves providing a combustion chamber (6) with an inlet opening controllable by an inlet valve (1) and an outlet opening controllable by an outlet valve. Early start of injection is shifted at increasing soot concentration in exhaust gas upto a crank angle based on control time at which the outlet valve is closed during excess of crank angle marks of maximum soot concentration, where the soot concentration falls below a predetermined threshold value in the crank angle.
