The headlight (10) has a light module accommodated in a headlight housing for emitting light to a preset light axis (13), and a base adjustment device (14) for adjusting a base of the light module, where the adjustment device is formed as an electromotor driven device. An electromotor driven light width adjusting device compensates changes in a position of the light axis during operation of the light module. An inclination sensor is arranged in and/or at the light module such that the position of the light module is determined relative to a horizontal (15) by the sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for adjusting a base of a headlight of a motor vehicle.
