The actuator (1) has a coil (3) arranged at a stator (5), and an armature (7) movable by current supply of the coil. A tappet (9) is connected with the armature, and a measuring device (10) determines an armature position. The measuring device is provided with a memory (15), a current sensor (12) and a magnetic field sensor (14) e.g. hall sensor. The stator is formed as a housing of the actuator. The magnetic field sensor is arranged at the stator and within the region of a magnetic scattering field of the actuator, where the stator has a groove. An independent claim is also included for a method for determination of a pre-determined armature position in an electromagnetic actuator.
