摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon-semimetal oxide of which the theoretical capacity is large in comparison with graphite and which is used for a negative electrode active material for a lithium ion battery to show superior cycle characteristics, and provide a manufacturing method of the carbon-semimetal oxide and an electrode or the like using the composite material. <P>SOLUTION: The composite material used for the negative electrode active material for the lithium ion battery contains a carbon material with pores each having a pore diameter of 10 nm or less, and one or more kinds of semimetal oxides selected from the group composed of silicon monoxide, silicon dioxide, tin monoxide, and tin dioxide.
