<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the load on a cable during operation even when the cable shorter than assumed is used. <P>SOLUTION: The latch device includes: an engaging/disengaging part for engaging/disengaging with/from a striker; a link mechanism for operating the engaging/disengaging part; an operation lever; and a cable for transmitting operation on the operation lever to the link mechanism. The link mechanism includes a biasing spring which is extended over a pair of link members among a plurality of link members, and biases the pair of link members in a direction for locking the engaging/disengaging part. The first link member to which the cable is connected has a direction, in which the link member is rotated by the cable being pulled by operation of the operation lever, opposite to the direction, in which the link member is rotated by a biasing force of the biasing spring. An engaging groove in which an engaging pin of the second link member can be engaged entirely is formed on an outer peripheral surface of the first link member.
