1,180,942. Welding by fusion. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 19 Jan., 1967 [20 Jan., 1966], No. 2867/67. Heading B3R. Apparatus for providing a substantially constant rate of change of gas, e.g. argon, flow to a point of use e.g. a plasma arc welding torch, over a predetermined time period, comprises a chamber 7 from which gas issues under control of a flow meter 8, e.g. an adjustable needle valve, to the point of use and pressure regulators 25 and 6 in a line connecting the gas source 1 to the chamber 7. Regulator 6 establishes the desired final pressure in the chamber 7 and regulator 25 and a throttle valve 5 determine the rate of increase in pressure in the chamber. The chamber 7 can be exhausted through an adjustable valve 9 and a solenoid actuated valve 10. A restricted gas flow by-passes the chamber 7 through a pressure regulator 12 and flow meter 13. In operation the apparatus is used to increase shielding gas flow from a starting to a welding gas flow.
|
