[Also in Division C2] An antibacterial composition comprises as active ingredient thereof the antibiotic lincomycin S or an acid addition salt thereof with an inorganic or organic acid (many examples provided), the lincomycin S having the formula:- The compositions comprise wash solutions for domestic and industrial use, e.g. for washing fish and fish crates. They may be used as a preservative for paper and fabrics, or may be applied to the breeding places of silk worms to prevent or minimise infections caused by Bacillus subtilis.
