<p>Disclosed is a light-emitting element that has a comparatively simple structure and can stably emit light of multiple wavelengths. Said light-emitting element (1) is provided with a composite substrate (3) and a gallium nitride semiconductor layer (5) that is provided on top of the composite substrate (3) and has a light-emitting layer (9). The composite substrate (3) has a base (19) and a gallium nitride layer, and the aforementioned gallium nitride semiconductor layer (5) is provided on a principal surface of the gallium nitride layer. The angle (?) between the c-axis of the gallium nitride layer and the normal (N1) of the principal surface (S1) of the gallium nitride layer is between 50° and 130°. The light-emitting layer (9) emits light having a polarization degree with an absolute value of at least 0.2, and the base (19) contains a fluorescent material that emits light as a result of the light emitted from the light-emitting layer (9). This configuration makes it possible to emit white light that is a combination of blue light emitted by the light-emitting layer (9) and yellow light emitted from the base (19) as a result of the blue light emitted by the light-emitting layer (9) being incident on the base.</p> |
