<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a keyboard instrument for reducing malfunctions in opening and closing a keyboard cover. <P>SOLUTION: The keyboard instrument includes: a keyboard cover for opening and closing an opening where a keyboard 5 is arranged; a processor 53 for outputting an encryption electric signal and a control electric signal; an encryption comparison logical circuit 54 outputting an enable signal when the encryption electric signal indicates predetermined encryption; a motor drive circuit 55 for outputting a drive electric signal on the basis of the control electric signal when the enable signal is output; and a motor 16 for generating power conveying the keyboard cover on the basis of the drive electric signal. The processor 53 is highly likely not to normally generate the control electric signal when the encryption electric signal is not normally generated. The keyboard instrument controls the motor 16 so as not to open/close the keyboard when the processor 53 malfunctions.
