<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active surface area calculation method and a calculation device capable of calculating an accurate active surface area of a catalyst carried on an electrode. <P>SOLUTION: In this active surface area calculation method for calculating the active surface area of the catalyst carried on a working electrode 22B in a fuel cell 2 having a counter electrode 22A and the working electrode 22B, for generating power by a chemical reaction, a flow rate of inert gas or liquid is indicated to a gas supply device 3 for supplying the inert gas or the liquid to the working electrode 22B, so as to remove bubbles generated on the catalyst surface, and a potential of the working electrode 22B to which the inert gas or the liquid is supplied with the indicated flow rate is swept in a prescribed potential range, and a current value acquired from the fuel cell 2 is detected, and a current-potential curve is created based on the detected current value, and the active surface area of the catalyst is calculated based on the created current-potential curve. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
